Founder / Senior vfx Supervisor / Matte painter

Christian Cardona is an Emmy-nominated visual effects supervisor and founder of Massive State Digital, a Los Angeles based provider of visual effects solutions for feature film, episodic television and new media projects. Officially launched in 2014, Massive State Digital has been responsible for the majority of the season of NBC’s “State of Affairs” and Netflix’s “Arrested Development” as well as a dozen feature films.

Cardona’s expertise spans over 20 years of diverse experience in the film industry, including eight years as a visual effects supervisor assisting productions from concept to post with digital effects design, on-set supervision, set-extension creation, 3D animation and complex compositing.

Prior to forming his company, Cardona was a senior visual effects supervisor at LOOK Effects where he spearheaded a team that delivered more than 150 episodes of primetime television. Cardona supervised four seasons of FOX Television’s “Bones,” the first season of AMC’s “Turn: Washington’s Spies,” FOX’s “The Finder” and a number of other shows and pilots during his tenure at LOOK Effects. His other credits include Marvel’s “Captain America” as a matte painter, “Black Swan” as a compositor and “Speed Racer” as a 3D artist just to name a few.

 Cardona’s extraordinary work on “Bones” earned him several Emmy and VES nominations. He has been featured in various trade publications including Variety, Animation World Network (AWN) and Computer Graphics World (CGW), and contributed to Richard Radke’s book Computer Vision for Visual Effects. In 2012, he was invited to speak at FMX in Stuttgart, Germany, Europe's most influential conference for digital entertainment hosted by Festival of Animated Film Stuttgart (ITFS) in cooperation with VES Visual Effects Society, ACM SIGGRAPH, World Building Institute and Eurographics.

Building on his professional background, Cardona is also producer and director at Massive State Studios, a full service production company he established to develop and oversee projects ranging from feature films and television series to music videos and multi-media content.

Cardona is a member of the Motion Picture Television Academy and a graduate of The Art Institute of Los Angeles with a BA in Media Arts and Animation.
